I’m a newly licensed nurse in Canada

At The Ottawa Hospital, our multi-national nursing workforce is ready to help and support you as you adapt to Canadian nursing practice. Internationally Educated Nurses who are newly registered receive tailored support from our IEN Coordinator, the Unit Educators and the individual preceptor at the hospital.

We’ll make sure your individual learning requirements are met so that you can feel confident providing patient care. Contact our Internationally Educated Nurse Advisor to learn more at ienpractice@toh.ca [link: ienpractice@toh.ca]

I’m looking to get a temporary license to practice

Nurses who have met the requirements for recent practice but still need to write the registration exam may qualify for a temporary license to work with us at The Ottawa Hospital.

In order to obtain your temporary license, you must have an offer of employment and both you and your hiring supervisor must complete the documentation and send it to The College of Nurses of Ontario.

If you qualify for a temporary license, the next step is to apply for a nursing position at The Ottawa Hospital and we’ll take it from there!

Check with The College of Nurses of Ontario regarding your eligibility.

Supervised Practice Experience Partnerships for IENs

The Supervised Practice Experience Partnership, or SPEP, program is designed for Internationally Educated Nurses who have passed the registration exam but do not have evidence of recent nursing practice. Fortunately, The Ottawa Hospital has a well established SPEP program and can help you get started.

Check here to see if you qualify for the SPEP program.

If you qualify or you would like to learn more about the program you can contact us at ienpractice@toh.ca to get started! Feel free to include your CNO number and a copy of the CNO documentation that you qualify for SPEP to help us speed up the process for you.

I have questions, how can I talk to an advisor?

If you have questions you can reach us at ienpractice@toh.ca [link: ienpractice@toh.ca] or you can contact Opportunity Calls at 1-800-XXX-XXXX and follow the options for international nurses.
